Just some quick updates before we head into the weekend.
The Navajo Nation same-sex marriage bill is scheduled for a final committee vote on Sept 28, and then vote in the full Council during the October session.
Romania’s main LGBT advocacy group ACCEPT welcomes the “moderate effort” the government put into its draft bill to recognize the spouses of Romanian citizens when they’re married in EU countries for residency purposes only. But the organization is highly critical of the fact that the bill doesn’t offer equality (as required by an ECHR decision earlier this year) and only imposes special conditions on same-sex couples.
A spokesperson for Cambodia’s main LGBT advocacy group, Rainbow Community Kampuchea, says that marriage equality is the most pressing concern for its community. They’re hopeful the incoming government will be receptive to their demand for equal marriage, and they’re also pushing for a gender recognition law.
The Supreme Court of Mexico has taken a case seeking to require states to allow marriages of three or more people. The individuals were already victorious in lower courts, but the state of Puebla appealed and the SCJN has to resolve it.
