Poland: On the same day Donald Tusk’s new center-left coalition won a confidence vote to form government, the European Court of Human Rights ruled that Poland’s lack of recognition of same-sex couples was a violation of the European Convention. The coalition’s proposed Minister for Equality – a first for the country – has said she considers establishing civil unions for same-sex couples to be a top priority.
Romania: Rights groups are calling on the government to pass a same-sex civil union law, as required by a ECtHR ruling earlier this year, although the government is saying that’s not a priority for them.
Norway: By a vote of 85-15, Parliament gave final approval to a law banning conversion therapy yesterday. Norway is the first Scandinavian country to ban it, although banning the so-called therapy is becoming increasingly common in Europe.
Canada: Parliament will vote later today on second reading of an internet censorship bill that’s disguised as an attempt to protect children from online pornography.
Brazil: The Supreme Court has ruled that the government health plan must cover more costs related to gender transition care.
Chile: President Boric has sent a bill strengthening the country’s hate crime laws to congress.
